Refurbishment can be the renovation, decoration or modernisation of (typically) the non-structural elements of a property.

Perhaps the most common examples are installing new bathroom or kitchen fittings. Although people often use the phrase “getting a new bathroom/kitchen, ” the defining feature of Refurbishment is that you keep your old bathroom/kitchen but remove its old contents and fill it with new ones.

Refurbishment can also describe redecoration of any kind, such as:

  • New wall paper
  • Re-painting
  • Laying a new floor

The cost of Refurbishment may be raised when buying a home. If a particular room, or rooms, are dilapidated then an estimate for Refurbishment may be sought, providing the prospective buyer with some bartering power with regards to the value of the home.
