Durability refers to the ability of a building, or part of a building, to perform its intended function over time and in the face of deteriorating elements.

Unlike design life, Durability is not an inherent property of a building or its components. (E. g. the same window will possess different levels of Durability in different environments. )

Durability is not easy to measure but is especially important to consider when buying a home. A Residential Surveyor can be more than useful in assessing how long it will be before components of a building need replacing. If, for example, a roof is not very Durable, the imminent repairs should be factored into the house price.
