The Transfer, sometimes referred to as the Purchase Deed, is the document that transfers the legal ownership of a property from the seller to the buyer. It is drawn up in a specific way, in accordance with Land Registry rules. The seller must always sign the Transfer and the buyer should also sign it but is not always required to. The Transfer is sent to Land Registry after completion, when the buyer applies to register the property in their name. The Transfer will contain basic information such as the purchase price, the property address, address of the new owner (if different from the property address) and any additional provisions.
