Bath has been named the best city in the UK in which to raise a family. The West Country city has knocked last year’s winner Newcastle off top spot in the moneysupermarket.com research.
The comparison site analysed 35 UK cities, rating them on quality of life indicators, such as schools, green space, housing, wages and crime.
Bath beat off all the competition to be named No.1, rated highly because of its high-quality schools, low crime rates and nearby parks. Its average salary of £29,806 only put it No.26 on the list, well behind London at the top. However, Bath had more job opportunities than anywhere else analysed by Moneysupermarket.
Newcastle’s schools rated outstanding
Newcastle, nudged into second place this year after topping the poll in 2017, continued to be rated highly for its outstanding schools, low crime rates and affordable house prices.
Wolverhampton claimed third place while Manchester was in fourth.
Moneysupermarket rated each city based on six criteria: outstanding schools; the number of parks; job opportunities; average salary; average house prices; and burglary hotspots.
