Wood Rot

Wood Rot is the occurrence of fungal decay in timber.  Broadly speaking, there are two kinds of wood rot: wet rot and dry rot.

Wood Rot can be deeply distressing - it blights timber aesthetically and structurally. If it is not treated in its early stages then the costs can be astronomical: whole sections of timber will have to be replaced.

Wood Rot can often be hidden. Make sure to carry out searches for it in hidden areas. It is also more prevalent in older houses

If, however, Wood Rot is identified before its too late, then there are measures that can be taken to contain and treat it. If in any doubt about potential Wood Rot in your home, contact a RICS Chartered Surveyor to make an assessment and provide solutions.
