Assured Tenancy

A tenancy given for a residential property let in the private sector on or after 15 January 1989. Under an assured tenancy, a landlord cannot evict a tenant without reason. Under this tenancy, the landlord is likely to live elsewhere and does not have a right to visit the property without notice.  Tenants usually pay their rent directly to private landlords and have control over who they can invite to the property.

It should also be noted that tenants who have moved after 27 February 1997 are unlikely to be classified as assured tenants.
