An adopted road is maintained and inspected by local governments. All of these services are funded by the taxpayer.
This public funding pays for repairs to road surfaces and other general maintenance work, such as tree pruning, road marking repainting and weed removal. A local County Council will usually arrange this work to be carried out when necessary.
Adopted roads are generally always available to the public, whereas access to private roads, which are maintained by the owner, may be restricted.
