The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has published a consultation, The right to enfranchise (RTE) provisions.
The consultation sets out the DCLG's proposals for the non-implementation and repeal of the RTE provisions in the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act 2002 that require collective enfranchisement to take place through an RTE company.
The consultation , which closes on the 3rd August is primarily aimed at long leaseholders of flats and professionals, such as conveyancing solicitors and valuers, that deal with collective enfranchisement where a freehold reversion is purchased. The intention is to try and make collective enfranchisement as easy as possible in light of the argument by many conveyancing solicitors and lessees that the current system for collective enfranchisement is too complex and prohibitive.
