Fridaysmove , together with other Birmingham Conveyancing Solicitors, have come to the rescue of several Birmingham city clients who were affected by the closure of a bulk conveyancing firm in the city.
On December 23rd 2009, Wolstenholmes Solicitors, based in Birmingham’s Victoria House, was shut down by the Solicitors Regulation Authority after allegations of dishonesty with clients’ money.
Former conveyancing customers alleged that, after paying deposits to the firm, their calls had gone unanswered. To date, the Fridaysmove Birmingham Conveyancing team have spoken to over 200 former clients of Wolstenholmes.
The Solicitors Regulation Authority, Ipsley Court, Berrington Close, Redditch, B98, was prompted to take action after Wolstenholmes (established in 1818) left many home buyers and sellers out in the cold
Following the closure of Wolstenholmes by the SRA, a host of clients who exchanged contracts were unable to complete on the sale or purchase of their home
The Law Society of England and Wales and Birmingham Law Society have joined forces to assemble a pool of Birmingham-based law firms who will be available to take on the work and complete the transactions without delay or inconvenience to former clients.
While an investigation into the firm is under way, the Law Society along with the Birmingham Law Society, and its counterpart in Manchester, has implemented a scheme to enable clients of Wolstenholmes to transfer their business to other solicitors.
The SRA have advised clients affected by the closure of Wolstenholmes that any money that they have entrusted to the firm is secure. These funds will be returned to them, either through the firm’s own professional indemnity insurance, or, if appropriate, the compensation fund administered by the SRA
