Polls open at 7am on Thursday, June for the UK general election. Each of the three main parties insists its plans for the UK housing market are the ones that will increase supply and affordability and increase the number of homeowners across the nation.

Here we present the Fridaysmove quick guide to the facts and figures in manifesto promises made by the Conservatives, Labour and the Liberal Democrats.

Conservatives: Homes for All

  • 1 million new homes by 2020
  • Another 500,000 by the end of 2022
  • Building 160,000 homes on government land
  • Free up more land for development
  • Enter into new deals with councils for more social housing
  • Build new fixed-term social houses to be sold privately after 10-15 years

Labour: Secure Homes for All

  • Build more than 1 million new homes
  • 100,000 council/housing association homes built every year for affordable rent and sale
  • Build more low-cost homes specifically for first-time buyers
  • Suspend right-to-buy until councils replace stock on like-for-like basis
  • Start work on a new generation of new towns
  • Protect leaseholders from rises in "ground rent"

Liberal Democrats: Building More and Better Homes

  • Increase rate of housebuilding to 300,000 every year
  • Create at least 10 new garden cities in England
  • Establish a government-backed investment bank to invest in major housing projects

  • Enforce housebuilding on unwanted public sector land
  • Penalise developers who land bank and fail to build on land with planning permission
