More firms acquire CQS accreditation

A number of firms have already secured Conveyancing Quality Scheme accreditation, launched in January 2011, including Fridaysmove -recommended Solicitors, Harding Evans at Queens Chambers, 2 North Street, Newport, NP20 1TE who handle Conveyancing in Newport transactions and other areas throughout Wales. The scheme requires firms to undergo an assessment, compulsory training, self-reporting, random audits and annual reviews in order to receive accreditation.

More firms nationwide are expected to obtain accreditation, but with the scheme only recently live, and the application assessment process taking anywhere up to 6 weeks, there is currently a backlog of applications. Understandably, many firms are anxious to receive this ‘stamp’ of approval.

While CQS status is not compulsory, this ought to contribute to ‘peace of mind’ for home owners and buyers when instructing a Conveyancing Solicitor for the sale or purchase of a property as it ensures that the firm has met the mark of quality as set out by the Law Society and can be trusted to deal with the transaction.

As the scheme becomes more popular, residential Conveyancing clients can start to look out for the scheme logo on the websites of member firms.

This should be positive news for the Conveyancing market, reinforcing just how vital it is to instruct a qualified and experienced Solicitor to handle your sale or purchase; the process can be laborious, exacting and requires the expertise to deal with the unexpected issues that can arise during even routine transactions.

Firms will be expected to maintain their accreditation through annual reviews and random audits and assessments. This is a great opportunity for Solicitors to demonstrate the quality service that they offer.

John Wotton, Vice President of the Law Society, states that:

“All accredited firms should be congratulated for their achievement. The application process is thorough and all those firms who achieve the CQS status have shown that they have what it takes to achieve and maintain high professional standards as well as delivering excellent customer service. ”

In the long run, will the scheme prove to a success for both consumers and the industry, as intended, or simply another meaningless rubber-stamp? Until we can be sure, Fridaysmove will continue to monitor approved Solicitors independently, ensuring that we recommend only the very best Conveyancing Solicitors to our clients.
