Plans for Co-operative to become one of the first Alternative Business Structures

The Co-op is planning to be one of the first Alternative Business Structures (ABS) to hit the market, come October 2011 when ABS will be permitted.

They are planning a major advertising campaign to promote their legal services amongst their customers. In-store radio and animated television screens are to be used to support the campaign.

Co-op  Legal Services managing director, Eddie Ryan, says the division plans to increase the Solicitors and Legal Executives it currently employs by one third over the next year. Co-op say they have not yet decided on which areas of law to undertake, however, it would be a surprise to most of us if conveyancing was not one of them.

The idea of the  cliche ‘Tesco Law’ is worrying to smaller solicitors firms who will inevitably suffer at the start due to an increase in competition for work.  The Co-op is planning to be one of the first Alternative Business Structures (ABS) to hit the market, come October 2011 when ABS will be permitted.
