One of the largest regional firms in the UK, Halliwells, whose headquarters are based in Manchester, are currently in talks with other major firms based in the North in relation to an acquisition of Halliwell’s business. Halliwells’ debts are said to be down to high property costs following a costly relocation of new offices.
Many are anticipating a double dip recession and if this is the case many other firms will struggle once again. A large number of law firms closed during the recession with many struggling largely due to the downturn in the property market and the resulting shortage of conveyancing work. It is hoped that we will not see such high figures in relation to firms collapsing as we did during the height of the recession.
