These are various types of member of the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal :
The Chairman of the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal appointed by the Lord Chancellor. A Chairman will usually be a solicitor or a surveyor. The Chairman is responsible for the running of the proceedings and will write the rational for the tribunal’s decisions.
Other members are appointed by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. They may be surveyors, solicitors or lay people. Alternatively, they may have particular expertise which will assist in reaching a decision in tribunal hearing.
Every Panel has a President, assisted by one or more Vice-Presidents, who has overall responsibility for the work of the Panel and is particularly responsible for the members. The President decides which members should be appointed to hear and decide a particular case. They will not be involved in the decision in a case unless they sit as a member of the leasehold Valuation Tribunal.
