The HIP Index

Schedule  1 of the HIP Regulations prescribes the required information that a HIP
index must contain and information that is authorised for inclusion. The HIP index must be clearly labelled as such and include the address of the property together with a list of the documents included in the HIP. The HIP index must be revised whenever a HIP document is added or removed. Where regulations 16, 17 or 20 apply (required documents that are temporarily or completely unobtainable), the HIP index must say which HIP document is missing and why.

If the HIP document is temporarily unavailable, the HIP index should state what steps are being taken to obtain it, when it is expected to be obtained, the reason for any delay, and the further date by which the HIP document is expected to be obtained.

The HIP index may contain information indicating where a particular document can
be found in the HIPe.g. a list of contents with page numbers. The suggested form for a HIP index is available at www.communities.gov.uk/homeinformationpacks. However, if the requirements described above are met, the report may take another form.
