For shopping centres in London’s suburbs to be able to compete with the central malls, they must be attractive to retailers and shoppers alike. Apart from boosting the local economy, a recent investment has also increased the volume of Conveyancing in Bromley as buyers flock to the area.
Kerry and Philip J, who recently instructed Fridaysmove’s approved solicitor Shazie Ghafoor on the purchase of a freehold property on East Drive, Orpington, Bromley, BR5, will be thrilled to find that Orbington High Street is being regenerated.
Their new home, valued at £181k, is located within a ten minutes’ bus ride of the High Street. The improvement scheme was unveiled by Mayor Boris Johnson and his brother, Bromley MP Jo Johnson, in July last year. Improvements included reducing “street clutter” by limiting road markings and introducing a new restricted parking zone, narrowing the street in order to increase space for pedestrians, installing coloured block paving, and planting more trees.
The Johnsons are confident that the improvements will make the town more attractive, particularly to property investors and new residents, increasing Conveyancing in Bromley.
Boris explained his vision:
“The high street now feels like a really nice place to spend some time as well as shop and I am confident that improvements like these will increase business for local traders as people are attracted to this impressive and transformed town centre”
His brother Jo conceded that "it has been a long wait and it has been a tough time for all traders but it has been worth it.”
The £2.2m development is funded in part by Transport for London (TfL) and with £1m from Bromley council. It forms part of the Mayor’s £220m “London’s Great Outdoors” program, a scheme aiming to “ensure that our streets, squares, parks and green and water spaces are fit for a great world city, are enjoyed by everyone who visits them and most importantly, help improve the quality of life in the capital”, according to the Greater London government website.
Making the town more attractive for both investors and residents is certainly good news for Conveyancing in Bromley, but at the same time, Bromley’s poorest face the threat of being left behind.
According to a recent council report, 3,000 are at the risk of losing their homes. With 8,000 Bronley families on the housing register and 440 new applications coming in every month, the chances of single people in lower priority bands to secure housing are “between slim and nil”.
This is because the market rate of rents is higher than the highest rate the council can contribute under the government’s housing benefit cap.
In light of this, Kerry and Phillip will be happy to have obtained their own property. Fridaysmove’s approved solicitor Shazie completed this Conveyancing in Bromley in October 2010, and Kerry and Phillip thanked her for her proactive and speedy work.
