Caterham has its fair share of interesting properties being part of London’s strategic military defence network: a group of trenches easily excavated in case of invasion. This military history is still seen to this day; Caterham hosted one of the largest Victorian army depots in the country now turned into a leisure facility – this includes a skate park dubbed by the local users as ‘Skaterham’.

RAF Kenley is situated near by and is said to be Britain’s best preserved World War 2 military airfield. Many of the original buildings are still standing , preserved as monuments to the brave service personnel, who looked after the skies above. A quote from Winston Churchill is inscribed on one of the monuments within: “Never in the field of human conflict, has so much been owed by so many to so few” – 1942.
