"There are about 353000 residential properties in West Sussex. Homes range from recently constructed to much earlier houses. That said, Brixton-area expertise is but one aspect of the issue when Qualified Chartered Surveyors investigate a residence, as there are a range of additional areas which must be taken into account. In general, local matters Property Surveyors may consider include cellar dampness, clay soil heave, noise from Heathrow, highly damaging House Longhorn Beetles, parapet wall upkeep, Portland stone lapsed maintenance and local planning considerations among others. (A range of these are referred to below).
Fridaysmove have undertaken Building Surveys in many parts of Lambeth and in all areas of Brixton and all districts. When buying a home in Brixton, it is highly recommended that all buyers carry out a Property Survey. Failing to do so could be a very costly mistake. Call us now to book a survey."

The House Longhorn Beetle is common to certain regions, and causes deterioration to timbers. The marks this beetle creates look similar to those caused by woodworm but are larger in radius. The House Longhorn Beetle can be very destructive to homes. They are so destructive that larvae eating softwood can be heard by the human ear. Due to the softwood used in their constuction, modern houses are more susceptible. Preventative measures include special wood treatments.
Structures built on these clay soils are prone to subsidence and foundation movement. Clay soil can be a concern if a home is built on it. If conditions are too damp, the clay soil could force the property upward, damaging the foundations. The HomeBuyer Report or Building Survey in Brixton will report on any evidence of heave or settlement. If these are suspected, a special dip test survey could be recommended.
Brixton houses may be affected by noise from London Heathrow Airport. Booking a thorough Brixton HomeBuyer Report or Building Survey from an independent Surveyor to consider the impact of Heathrow's proximity is strongly advised. BAA may offer compensation to familes living under the flightpath. These cavities should be packed out with sound proofing material. Loft insulation is also advised. Total erradication of noise will not be possible however.
